FROM ABOUT 9.30 0N THE PICS ARE A BIT BLURRED. PLUS I WOULD HAVE FOUND IT HELPFUL IF THE PLACES WERE NAMED AS I HAVEN'T LIVED IN HALIFAX FOR YEARS. HOWEVER, AN EXCELLENT COMPILATION. THANKS VERY MUCH. 🤗
Have you got any old photos of Mary Street ?
Up the Boro!!!☘️
I visited Halifax in 1967 and 1977😊❤🇺🇸
I thought Halfords was a new brand
Anyone know of a sweet shop called Carmodys? My great-grandfathers family . They also had a meat shop. Bunratty.
Enjoyed this John . Well Done. My home town.

The pics are going too fast😢.i loved the video❤
How could such a bustling city have such sad music? Looks like the whole thing didn’t have a bad side.
1:42 my old house in the distance 1 Ovenden Road Terrace
Brilliant...
I’d love a copy of the firefighter rew photo. Do you know where I can get one ? Thanks . Conor Sheehan
Is that the picture of all the firefighters together ?? if you send me your email address I will sort one out for you Conor.
I got a dvd of old limerick and the abbey my great grandfather was a abbey fishermen
A small correction; The photograph of the children on the seesaw was taken in Heptonstall, not Halifax. It dates from the mid 1930's, and the boy just left of centre with the dog in his lap was Geoff Sunderland. He later married the girl on the right in the white dress and wearing a hat, whose name was Winnie. Sorry I don't know her maiden name. Information courtesy of my mum, who's nearly 90 and knew some of these children.
Not an african in sight
Me here from the Halifax in Canada wondering why I don't recognize any places.
Very interesting selection of old photographs of the town. I dont know Halifax well enough to place very many of the photos, as my knowledge of the place comes mainly from visits to a friend and the pub crawls that often involved. I was hoping to see a picture of my favourite Halifax pub, the marvellous Big 6 in Thomas Street West. There was nothing wrong with the music but something like the Black Dyke Mills Brass Band would have been highly appropriate I feel.
Are you Rosie's nephew
Yes I am.
@@TheGINNERBOY don't know much of this system how are ye all Noreen Buckley I remember ye ask Mam abouty mam first time using this system

As an "off-comed 'un" (I live in Skipton) I used to occasionally work in Halifax when I was employed as a BT engineer and whilst not totally familiar with every part of Halifax, I can place some of these scenes. Thanks for sharing these views. I really enjoyed them.
do one of the sandmall
Nice. Please subscribe to my channel too
Great video but @1.40 that is the Rock of Cashel and a few klicks from Limerick
I would have enjoyed this video more if the photos were a little slower moving from one to another 👎🏻sorry
Very nice thank you.
Love the selection of photos. Any chance of a re-edit that doesn't transition so fast ?
Nice slideshow john, is that Donald John at 7:13 he's only homeless man i can recall people speaking of back in the day? He's a bit before my time.
My Father was born at 5 Colin street, Halifax in 1910.
These people bled so you could have England as a safe haven for your sons and daughters. Patriotic Alternative is a new movement that unapologetically wants to stop the ethnic cleansing of Britons. We were never asked!
87% of the VJ day veterans were of indian heritage. Those people were the labour force required for this country after the wars - they may be economic migrants today but were under imperial rule for 200 years in their own country! Their sons and daughters are currently the workforce of your NHS and eateries up and down this great country. Reflect on your narrow mindedness.
@@Suve35967 The other races on earth can't be British along with those race mixed children....
Top.... But the music sucks!
the music reflects the times
Hull, Hell and Halifax... is what the older generation used to say about the place... with some justification. There are nice bits of it like Wainstalls on the outskirts of town where we had a cottage and workshop for a time.
Hi You are showing a copyrighted photograph of mine on your video.
Shut up
OR EVEN BETTER SOME PICS
Dose anyone remember jacks field and Denfield kitchens IN OVENDEN
Yes I remember Denfield kitchens, they were in the middle of Furness housing estate, I believe they used to cook the dinners for several local schools that didn't have a kitchen of their own. After the kitchens closed, part of the buildings became a youth motorcycle training centre. Sadly the buildings were demolished many years ago and nothing has been built there since.
Great photos of my home town yet incredibly depressing music. These images are a celebration of a great town yet the music does not reflect this.
My grandfather was in uk Halifax in 1951
I was raised in Halifax, grew up in the 60s, 70s. It’s a scruffy old town now, no dignity
I've really enjoyed looking at these old photos, some I recognise others before my time. The only thing I can find fault with is you didn't linger long enough on each frame. But otherwise very enjoyable, thank you
It must have been hard living in parts of the world that were still in black and white. I wonder when it all finally finished changing and everywhere was in colour.
These black & white s are very beautiful and mesmerising.
I live and lived in Halifax, 1960, and if you wanted life in colour you had to apply to the town hall for a license, this was checked frequently by the colour police, as you moved around the town, if it was out of date or you didn’t have one their was severe penalties, colour in life was only really for the upper classes, like the mill owners, I worked all over Halifax, mainly Dean Clough, and life was dreadfully grey most of the time………
@@lioncrunch Great response, I live in Australia but I have visited many times to Halifax, Hebden Bridge and surrounds. I must say I found life to better in 2021 than in the 1970's. I tried to get a weekend colour license however the town hall said they had issued to many that month to tourists and didn't want to flood the place with sight seers clogging the foot paths and disrupting traffic.
@@Becu1001a that's the trouble with issuing so may colour life license's. eventually all the colours bleed and fade, I heard one weekend, Hebden Bridge turned Brown they were so many tourists with colour licence's. Anyway up on the tops especially on top of Wainhouse Tower, on a clear day, you can nearly see the bottom of the tower, I personally think this is a myth..
Oh boy thats good Work thank you John 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great pics but they change too quickly
You can stop the video at any time to see the pictures for longer periods
what,s the soundtrack John, beautiful.
Hi John I emigrated from Halifax to Ireland in 1977 at 19yrs of age. I have been back visiting 4 or 5 times just for a day here and there. I came across your video by accident this evening and it gave me great pleasure to see so many familiar places. I recall collecting my first bicycle in Halfords at 7yrs old what a memorable day. We lived in Ovenden and the Wheatley. No car then so we walked and cycled everywhere, Mixenden, Mount Tabor, Midgley, sowerby bridge, Shipden park Northarm, southarm. sidle, Brighouse, Elland, Manor Heath, Wainhouse tower, Boothtown, Queensbury the names and memories just keep coming Thank You Leo Reddy nearly 60
your welcome Leo, love the old photos of our town, there is also a site of old films produced by Mitchell & Kenyon which are a few of Halifax, just type Mitchell & Kenyon into your search engine then search for halifax, some brilliant stuff from all over the UK & Ireland. Thank you for your comments.
This video is so wonderful! Help me, I saw one picture in 1:20 minutes, do you know who are? The third man sit left to right?
❤❤❤
Where is the photo taken from at 37 seconds ?
That is an old photo of O'Connell Street with Roches stores on the right
Hi John. Could you possibly get in touch with me somehow. I'm wanting permission to use your video on my Facebook group 50 shades of Halifax m.facebook.com/groups/924695794311356
